Since Friday

Here are some random things that have occurred in the last week.
· Taught a scrapbook class to a small group of women at my lss. There were 4 of them. It was boring. I don’t like teaching Scrapbooking. It’s too personal.
· I hit a parked car while parking in front of the Y to get Jake. The best thing about it, the other person was IN the car. No damage, very embarrassing.
· I nodded politely while listening to someone at work dis Canadians. “Well dear, she IS Canadian, that does explain her complete lack of personality.” I could have taken a stand against prejudice but I just didn’t think it’d be worth the effort.
· I had an epiphany concerning my mother in law. It happened while I was tucking Jacob in one night. He has a book that his kinder teachers gave to him when he graduated. The note they had written on the cover mentioned Jacob’s hula hooping skills and congratulated him on his victory. 39 straight minutes of hooping. Quite impressive. Anyway, I told Jacob to give me the book so I could put it in his special box and he wanted to know why I thought it was special. I told him he could use it one day to show his own kids that he was once the hooping champion of the K-2 grades. He then got excited and started looking around his room, pointing out objects that he would one day show to his kids. He wants to make sure I save his trophies, his Star Wars posters, some of his Knights and Castles toys, his piggy bank, his YiGiOh cards, his photo albums…Then he started talking about everything he knows about his dad because Grammy saved all Dad’s stuff and gives it to him. It made me think about my own grandchild looking at the things that are special to both Jacob and I. Cool moment.
· I had lunch with some girls from work. We drank margaritas. We were late getting back to our conference and had to sneak in the back. It felt so normal. I’ve missed hanging out with people.
· I played games with Brad and Matt. Hung out with them and drank WAY too much. Sat on the sofa and talked for hours. It was so wonderful to see Brad, and then to have both of them here was great.
· I got home to find Ty and 2 of his friends drunk as skunks in my living room at a time they were all supposed to be in class. Their excuses (very valid ones) were hilarious. A little more normal seeping into our lives. Connections being made, friendships formed.
· I got invited to a tattoo parlor. I’m considering it.
· I got a step closer to figuring out what I want to be when I grow up. I learned some amazing things at a symposium for adults who live or work with traumatized children. I’m thinking I’d like to continue working closely with children, but not necessarily as a teacher. I’m fascinated (haven’t been fascinated in a long time) by the treatment process. I’m going to look into different masters and PhD programs to see what my options are. I’m also going to work part time on the treatment team at my school. I’ll work with the kids in the residential sector of our program. This will give me the chance to work closely with doctors and therapists so I can figure out what my options are. It’s exciting.
