E: I hate this place, and I don't ever. want. to. live. here. ever. again.
Thirty minutes later...
Me: Hey dude, earlier? when you said you hated this place? That wasn't very nice, and it hurt my feelings. It's okay to feel angry, but it's not okay to say mean things to people.
E: It's okay mom, I don't hate this place right now. I'll stay for a while.
